The chemo regime

I have been two weeks on chemotherapy now. I am feeling a bit jaded and mildly nauseous, and it has affected my voice a bit, but that is not stopping me working most days. On Sunday Miang and I did the Skyline walk near Mt KauKau with our friend Anne Brown who was visiting from Dunedin. The picture shows Anne reflecting my body's "energy" back into my head. Yes, I know, I'm a physicist who doesn't beleive in Reiki, but such kind attention from friends is always welcome!

My accounts of infusions in Palmerston North and Wellington are perhaps a bit confusing. This is how the three week cycle works.

Day 1 (Tuesday) Cycle 1 begins: travel to Palmerston North for Avastin (Bevacizumab) infusion.

Day 2 (Wednesday) Blood test

Day 4 (Friday) have an Irinotecan infusion at Wellington Hospital Blood and Cancer Centre. On the same day, start taking the oral pro-drug Xeloda (Capecitabine) evening and mornings. Continue doing this for 14 days.

Day 11 (Friday) have a second Irinotecan infusion at Wellington Hospital.

Day 18 (Friday) last Capecitabine for this cycle.

Day 19 (Saturday) no oral drugs

Day 22 (Tuesday) Cycle 2 begins: travel to Palmerston North etc.

I will have maybe 6 to 8 cycles, but after cycle 3, we will probably do another staging X-ray CT to see the state of the tumours.
