A curious unhelpfulness of St George Hospital showed up in their treatment of incoming mail. Several people who sent me cards had them returned, if they had a return address indicated, or if not, simply discarded. My sister's crime was to address the card in every way correctly, but to also include the line "Cancer Ward". It turns out that there is no Ward labeled precisely as such, so rather than checking the hospital's register of patients the mail receptionist simply did a "return to sender". Fortunately the medical and nursing staff at St George were less callous and lazy.
So, if you are one of those who sent a card, and received no thank you from me, please understand, I probably never received it!
